President of Iran Hassan Rouhani and Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel held a joint session on Tuesday evening on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
“Iranians describe Belgian people as culture-lovers of the Central Europe,” highlighted the Iranian side asserting that excellent ties between the two nations marks a precious capital.
Rouhani recalled that conditions had improved for development of economic relations following implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) adding “in order to solidify the agreement, the emerged positive atmosphere needs to be strengthened through economic collaboration.”
“Fortunately, several European firms have made presence in Iran and good agreements have been reached following comprehensive negotiations,” he underlined.
He later noted that banking ties were a prerequisite to reinvigoration of economic transactions and expressed Iran’s eagerness to develop scientific and technological accords with Brussels. Iran’s President also called for provision of further facilities to tourists of both sides.
Hassan Rouhani also pointed to martyrdom of 17,000 Iranian nationals by terrorists saying “Iran, as a major victim of terrorism, is ready to join hands with Belgium and the EU in the fight against terrorism.”
Belgian PM, for his part, described JCPOA as a great opportunity for strengthening Tehran-Brussels ties stressing that his country was after developing relations with Iran.
Charles Michel stated that the JCPOA can expand venues for cooperation promising to convey the same message to his European counterparts.
The official said his country was after bolstering ties with Iran noting “Belgian firms are also willing to make presence in Iran.”
At the end of his remarks, the Belgian PM invited President Rouhani to make an official visit to Brussels explaining “the visit could be a sign of cooperation with 27 European countries.”
